MegaFon offers option of voice calls via Wi-Fi across country
MOSCOW, Sep 6 (PRIME) -- Russian mobile operator MegaFon has unrolled nationwide network VoWiFi to get ordinary voice calls via Wi-Fi in the areas with a poor signal, the company said on Tuesday.
“MegaFon…has installed equipment for technology Voice over WiFi (VoWiFi) in all the regions of the country…The technology can use any Wi-Fi router with access to the Internet as a base station and improve the quality of a voice call for the subscriber,” the company said.
Chief Technology Officer Alexei Titov said the network is built so that the smartphone automatically picks the best wireless technology of connection depending on location.
The company reiterated that it started laying the network in 2020 and the technology became available in the next two years not only in Moscow, but also in other regions of the country.
